to be presented with a magnificent 10-point trophy, is something I will likely never see again. This year I may not even catch a glimpse of antler and that’s fine. To me, hunting success is measured in other ways. Good fortune is fleeting; we all
know it comes and goes; but hanging out in God’s country with family and close friends is what it’s all about.
Oh, that harvest moon Anyone who follows the lunar
cycle understands that harvest moon and hunters’ moon are two important lunar phases to keep an eye on this fall.
I know would never measure success of a hunt in the number of game animals to hit the ground. A truly successful hunt, for me, is spending quality time as a group. The real rewards lie in subtleties like enjoying the sights and sounds in this magical time of year. Observing moose, deer, squirrels and other critters in their
natural setting, without ever touching the trigger, is as fulfilling to me as bagging a big buck. Last season was my gift from
heaven with the most buck action I’ve been blessed with in three decades of hunting. Given the opportunity to harvest, but choosing instead to pass up four whitetail bucks, and later
