Oh Crepes!

Since the last edition of The Wire, the catering skills of many Rotary Club members have been hard at work. The presence of the Rotary marquee at both The Doune and Dunblane Agricultural Show, and at The Bridge of Allan Highland Games has tested both their dexterity and stamina to the full.

A great deal of preparation and hard physical work goes into these activities. Apart from loading up one of George Morrison’s vans at Mo-Lawn with all the gear to run the event, there is also the creation of literally gallons of batter to make the crepes on the day.

Fortunately, we have been blessed with great weather on both occasions, which has resulted in a signifi cant increase in sales of these delicacies. This has, to a very signifi cant degree, been the result of having second griddle on which to produce the many diff erent types of crepes, ranging from savoury crepes with cheese, bacon and ham while for those with a sweeter tooth there were fresh strawberries, many diff erent fl avours of sweet sauces and maple syrup, through to a perennial favourite, Nutella.

The result of all this work has been that, over the two events, the Club has raised over £1,200 for its community activities which include the Winter Treat for Senior Citizens and various events for young people, including the Young Chef competition.

We hope, dear reader, when you go to one or other of these events, or at the Fling, you will look us up and sample for yourselves one or more of these delicious treats!

Our next big event is Beat Beethoven on 20 October at Stirling University. For more information and to register for this fun run, visit http://www.beatbeethoven.co.uk/ or follow the exploits of the maestro on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Beatbeethoven
