Rounding Up a Busy Year at Newton Nursery
Here we are again at the end of another very busy year at Newton Nursery. An on going context throughout this year has been planting and growing, from planting bulbs in the autumn inside and out, to planting potatoes and beans in the spring.
The children really wanted to grow a beanstalk (but not a Giant!); however, they learned that in Scotland it isn’t warm enough to grow beans outside in the spring time. We need more sun! We had far more success with our potatoes though. They were planted in grow bags after they had “chitted” on the windowsill for two weeks and the children were very excited to see new shoots after only another two weeks. They were very concerned when it snowed again in March, insisting that they come back into nursery to keep warm because plants need heat, sun and water to grow. After the Easter holidays the children watched and cared for their potatoes outside and in the last week of term were delighted to harvest 20 from each bag. After counting them, comparing their size and shape, and sorting them into ascending order they were scrubbed, cut into wedges, cooked and eaten for snack. We have enjoyed a great year at Newton Nursery.

A note of thanks… Many thanks to our very hard working P.S.A. and parents, children, staff and members of our local community who were able to support our annual Fun Day. We look forward to seeing you all again next year! Thank you.
