10th Annual Great Outdoor Weekend

reen Umbrella, along with 50 other organizations, is hosting
a once-per-year event the week- end of September 28 and 29 with more than 150 outdoor activities in the Cincinnati area. This is a large collaborative effort between the re- gion’s different outdoor adventure and education organizations. The Great Outdoor Weekend promotes
health and well-being, as well as a connection to the natural world. Enjoy the natural wonders of Cincinnati while experi- encing exhilarating activities such as ziplining, kayaking, hiking, climbing, fishing, archery, biking and a plethora of other fun things to do. Visitors are invited to sample new ac- tivities and learn new skills at no charge for the whole family.
In conjunction with the Great Outdoor Week- end, Green Umbrella is also launching the Taking Root
Campaign. Taking Root aims to
plant 2 million trees by 2020 to replace tree canopies devastated by infestation and disease.

lourish Design is offering a series of sustainable online workshops beginning with the Flourish Deer Proofing Challenge. Hungry deer brows- ing private gardens can present a significant challenge. Learning the proper techniques and installing plants that are not deer-friendly can go a long way towards preventing deer damage. The Flourish Deer Proofing Challenge provides the tools and know-how to fill a garden with the right plants. Workshops begin August 19 and continue through
November 4, providing three months of weekly challenge assignments of design and planning for deer-proof success.
