COLLEEN’S CONSULTATIONS True Happiness Comes From Within by Gayle Wilson Rose
H
aving been raised by a Baptist
minister grandfather and Sunday school teacher father left Colleen Kerns with spiritual roots that run deep. But those roots didn’t lead Kerns down a predictable path. In her mid-30s, she reached a turn- ing point where she “jumped out of the Baptist boat and into the metaphysical boat.” She’s been cruising full-throttle ever since, revising who she is and what is most important to her personal and professional life. As founder of Colleen’s Consulta-
tions, in the Tri-County area, Kerns ex- plains, “Transformations spur growth, so we can live more in line with our soul’s desire—our purpose.” She notes that spiritual growth can be easy and joyful, but many people experience a painful or challenging event that inspires change. For Kerns, that meant learning and
knowing herself first. After completing the Healer Certification program of- fered through the Alexander Technique of Cincinnati, she went on to practice
holistic healing. Now, with Reiki level II status, energy and crystals studies, healer certification and as a life coach, Kerns helps clients in several ways. This Cincinnati native has studied medita- tion and been on an accelerated path of spiritual growth and self-discovery for 20 years. “I love sharing
what I’ve learned in my transformative journey,” says Kerns. Typical clients of Colleen’s Consul-
tations want to heal naturally without sur- gery and medication, are open-minded and wish to take responsibility for their health. Kerns recommends her clients ask themselves a daily question: “What small thing could I do today that would make me happy?” Whether the answer is a walk around the neighborhood to relieve stress, a nap or 30 minutes of inspiring reading, Kerns believes that acting daily on small, happiness-inducing things will nudge one into easier spiritual growth, helping to create a deeply satisfying life. Through spiritual growth, Kerns
has seen her clients experience benefits

which include creating more loving, supportive relationships; releasing their self-imposed victim mentality and feeling more empowered; letting go of things that no longer serve them; learning how to stay open and operate from a loving place; increasing authenticity; and attain- ing greater consciousness and harmony in daily situations. Whether healing mentally, physi-
cally or spiritually, Kerns takes a whole- person approach with her clients. New clients are offered a no-charge, in- person, half-hour meeting that typically comprises a discovery discussion, and then energy work and meditation. She concludes by sharing her discoveries, understanding the client’s experience and proposing a possible course of ac- tion. Kerns meets clients in her expansive home office treatment room with a mas- sage table, crystals and relaxing music. To begin a session, she simply asks, “How may I help you?” or “What are you looking for?” At $30 per 30-minute ses- sion, a typical client might consult with Kerns once a week for a few weeks or for several months, if the client feels a need. Kerns brings a 25-year passion to
her work, using a wide variety of experi- ences and modalities to help her clients heal in mind, body and spirit. When asked about her greatest wish in life, she smiles and says, “I want to make the world a better place through my healing practice.” If asked, her clients would likely say that wish is coming true.
