Peter’s shining example YOUNG cricketers in Addington have a lot to thank Peter Robin- son for. Now, his efforts to boost youth development at the village club and beyond have been recognised by the Brit Insurance Annual Achievement Awards, held at Lord's, the home of cricket. The award re- flects his immense contribution to the Chance to Shine programme since 2005. A spokesman said: "Throughout his time as project manager, Robinson has poured consider- able energy into his own club’s work but has also
supported many other projects in Kent." Peter said: “I’m now involved in the Kent County Board dis- abilities programme, which is absolutely wonderful.”

Ben gets apprentice award PARKWood engineer Ben Smurthwaite (23) was named national apprentice of the year in an annual award scheme run by TNT Express Services. He was judged the top trainee in a scheme that puts young engineers through a five-year apprenticeship. Ben, who works in the vehicle maintenance
unit at TNT Maidstone in Aylesford, picked up a full-time job after completing his apprenticeship with flying colours. He previously worked on a fruit and veg stall in a local market but is now
qualified to tackle anything from a company car to one of TNT’s giant 44ft lorries. “I prefer the lorries because small cars can be fiddly,” said Ben, who races mountain bikes when not up to his elbows in engine oil.
