Residents get answers to concerns Town Talk

HOLBOROUGH Lakes residents were in- vited to raise their concerns to representa- tives from Berkeley Homes and the residential management company in a meeting chaired by localMPTracey Crouch. Complaints were made about issues in- cluding gym fees, residents’ and general parking, lack of play areas, the residents as- sociation, speeding and access to the lake. Residents were advised that there would
be increased spaces for visitor parking in the first of the two car parks but that charges
of 20p per hour at night and at weekends would be implemented to deter residents from using visitor spaces, although it was agreed that this could be reviewed. It was further announced that there would
be speed restrictors in the road and bays for parking on Poynder Drive. Berkeley would look to see if further traffic calming was needed at the far end of Poynder Drive where there are now a large number of new properties occupied. Residents claimed the problem of a lack
Bowls club getting set for new season on new green
TOWNSEND Hook Bowls Club is hoping its new home at Potyns Sportsground will be ready to use for next season. The club lost its old green when Smurfit Kappa
Townsend Hook sold its sports field near Snodland railway station for housing development. The com- pany was committed to replace the green and chang- ing accommodation for the club. The turf was laid in November and Town Talk pic-
tured Roger Pollington, a member for 52 years, in- specting the site. Roger, who has been captain and chairman in the past and is now president, first played for Kent in 1963. “I have always enjoyed playing and I am looking forward to playing here,” he said. Mick Galloway, the club’s representative on Snod-
land Sports Association, told Town Talk: “We can’t take anything for granted but we have been assured it will be ready to play on by April.” All last season’s matches were played away and all but one will be played away in April.
of parking had been created by Berkeley Homes, who had caused displacement into Holborough Road – making life hard for res- idents – since adopting a strict regime of fining and clamping commercial vehicles on the lakes development. Berkeley Homes representatives said they would maintain the regime of fines and clamping. They added that there were as many residents in favour of the policy as there were against it. The developer added that it will apply to
undertake work to the far end of Poynder Drive to give easy access to the lake, which is cur- rently only accessed through the construction site. Other forthcoming develop-
ments include changes to the position of the roundabout at the top of the boulevard and a new play area for older chil- dren. The new convenience store would be handed over very shortly and once fitted out, would be open for business, probably by March 2011.
Club’s owners WE have been asked by Jenny Poulter to make it clear that she and her mother, Jean, still own the Savoy Snooker Club prem- ises in High Street, Snodland, which is leased to John Ferrell (see last Town Talk). Jenny said she would like to
thank all her previous cus- tomers for their support.
