Where to visit Hadlow College is more than
just an award-winning centre of learning. It is also an excellent place to find rare and unusual plants and shrubs, as well as the best gardening and horticultural advice, on hand from the experts.
The Broadview Gardens
complex, located within the college grounds, includes 10 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, as well as a retail garden centre, Kent produce shop, tearoom and florist. Visitors can tour the gardens for inspiration before browsing for similar species in the nursery.
Free to enter, the garden is divided into smaller sub-areas and includes a traditional Italian garden and a Japanese garden as well as sensory and water gardens.
Broadview Gardens holds two national collections (Hellebores and Japanese anemones) and hosts a number of events throughout the year.

The gardens are open Mondays to Saturdays between 9am and 5pm and Sundays, 10am-4pm.
Downderry Lavender, just over a mile from the village
centre, offers a real assault on the senses. One of the largest producers of lavender and rosemary in the region, there are regular summer tours of the nursery and field.
There is a special lavender weekend on June 23 and 24, with tours at 11am, 2pm and 3.30pm each day.
Five minutes down the road, Poult Wood Golf Centre, on Higham Lane, Tonbridge, has both 18-hole and 9-hole courses for golfing enthusiasts, plus a resident golf professional on hand to give expert tuition. There are also four squash courts in the clubhouse, plus a restaurant and bar open to the general public. Just beyond Poult Wood is Dene Park, a Forestry Commission woodland with a waymarked circular forest walk.
Where to stay The recently extended and
refurbished Hadlow Manor has 29 spacious en-suite bedrooms, split between the manor house and the new extension. There is extensive on-site parking, gardens, a restaurant and bar, with regular weekend entertainment.
The privately owned Carpenters Arms at Three Elm Lane, just off Hadlow Road, has a reputation as a high-standard gastro pub, producing great food. The nine en-suite rooms are finished to a high standard.
For a family-run B&B set in an acre of mature gardens,
Fieldswood in Hadlow Park offers a choice of rooms - plus an outdoor swimming pool.
