EDITOR’S LETTER – DAVE BROWN
Welcome to the SPRING ISSUE of Ultimate Canada! Here’s to 2013 and some new developments and awards honouring Ultimate players everywhere! As with every issue, there’s much to read and enjoy. To begin, look to the next page to see about the National Coaching Certification Program update. Go figure we’d have more than 250 coaches trained through 20 clinics across the country. It will bode well for the growth and future of Ultimate in Canada. The news that Canada is headed to the World Games in Cali, Colombia
is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our sport and our country. Meeting together in Toronto for their first training camp, couple with months of individual training, has helped build and prepare this team. Watch and cheer for them beginning July 25th. If you’re looking for some individual tips to help your game then be sure to
check out Ultimate Rob’s column on the importance of receiving the pull (see page 6); Clearing Out tips from Playspedia on page 11; and Matt’s tips about the One-step Cut (page 21) — all written to help improve your game. We all know training is key to improving in all sports. Jump over to page 14
for Tom King’s detailed plan to build strength, power and speed. If you follow his regimen, you’ll be guaranteed to help your team to more Ws. Ultimate players are always keen to doll out kudos to those who’ve earned it
– well in this issue they do again. Flip over to page 8 to read about the male, female and coach of the year awards, or see page 10 to read about our cover photo of the Spirit of the Game team award winners. Congrats to you all. Furthermore, we tip our caps to the inductees into the Hall of Fame. These
