writting a letter arguing the Canadian case for inclusion which appeared in the UPA newsletter alongside the Flint counter-argument. The leaders of the UPA wisely decided in the spirit of the Spirit of the Game to let Canadians play. That decision stands to this. In 1989 Dante left the team and the city.
Local In Toronto, the origins of the city league started at the regular pick- up game in the Beaches. It was the combination of the seasoned all-around players from Toronto meeting the upstart Ultimate players who rolled in from Montreal after graduating that got things started. In ’84 or ’85, the pick-up game turned into a 4-team league: red, orange, blue, and one other color. Dante was on Agent Orange. By 1988-89 the league was much bigger holding games at Rosehill Reservoir among other places.
PERSONAL ACCOMPISHMENTS Dante considers his single biggest accomplishment was winning the first Nationals in 1987 as captain of the Toronto team, Darkside. “I can still remember The Legend catching the final pass to win the game.”
Other accomplishments include: • Helping get Ultimate started in Toronto on the local level.
• Captian of the first Toronto travelling club team, Darkside.
• Being on the first Canadian college team.
• Playing on the first Canadian National team in 1984 at the Worlds in Switzerland -- with a nine- man roster while playing a 15 game schedule finishing very respectably.
• Captaining the 1988 Canadian National team in Leuven, Belgium and being the first Canadian to do so. Formerly Paul Stern, an American, was captain
of the National team.
• Beating the USA in the Worlds on the Canadian National team in 1992 in Japan.
• Representing Canada in Ultimate and Guts playing at 7 consecutive World Championships over a 14-year span.
• Making the tournament cover playing for Canada in the Masters in Jönköping Sweden in 1996.
I also preached spirit of the game and still believe it is important for teams to play with good spirit. I rarely call fouls and vote against refs and active observers. When playing for your country it is important to project the best attributes of your country. On the World scene,

Canadians have a good rep as being tough athletes but fun and friendly and funny people as well. At 50, Dante still plays in Summer league and in weekly pickup games in Marin. He and his wife co-captained their summer league team (Marin Ultimate Summer League) where the goal is to have fun playing and help develop the area youth. They also play in occasional charity, fund-raiser tournaments. And Dante says : “I still lay it out a fair bit ;) And remind people how awesome Canadians are just to bug them.” Welcome to the Hall of Fame Dante and congratulations on all your suc- cesses in the past and we wish you many more in the future.
