Argyll’s Secret Coast

cal fare. At Ballimore Oysters, Tristan van Lynden grows super-succulent oysters in the fast-fl owing, clean waters off Otter Fer- ry. You can try them at the Oystercatcher or visit the farm and buy some yourself. You might even get a tour! At Evanachan Organic Farm, Fiona Barge makes delicious cheese with milk from her four Jersey cows. As well as cheese, you can buy organic vegetables and free-range eggs from the farm. Meanwhile at Otter Ferry Seafi sh, hali- but are hatched before being sent to Gigha to be organically hand-reared. There are lovely villages walks and cycles all within striking distance of Otter Ferry. Head north along the B8000, a single-track road that hugs the coast, and you’ll come to the Inver Cottage Restaurant on the shores of Lachlan Bay. This restored croft is a great place to unwind and enjoy superb local cuisine. How about langoustines creeled in the bay or Gigha halibut? From Inver Cot- tage, there’s an easy walk across the bay to see the ruined Castle Lachlan, a unique and atmospheric 15th-century fortress with a striking outlook. Head south towards Tighnabruaich and you arrive at the historic village of Kilfi nan, where the 13th-century church guards the

well-preserved 9th-century Kilfi nan Stones within its vaults. Kilfi nan is surrounded by beautiful countryside and offers some lovely walking. Head down the track through Otter Estate to the stunning (and most likely de- serted) Kilfi nan Bay. On the way back stop at the Kilfi nan Hotel, a traditional coaching houses, for refreshments. Otter Ferry has to be one the best-kept se- crets on Argyll’s Secret Coast. Whether you come here by land or sea, you’ll enjoy beau- tiful scenery, bountiful wildlife, fabulous food and a warm welcome. Make sure you also fi nd the time to explore the rest of Argyll’s Secret Coast. This undiscovered corner of Scotland is an area of exquisite beauty, yet hardly anyone knows about it. Cycle, kayak, golf, walk, paddle, fi sh or relax and enjoy the views. Just don’t tell everyone… www.argyllsecretcoast.co.uk www.otterferry.co.uk www.theoystercatcher.co.uk
