Kintyre & Gigha
On the community owned
Isle of Gigha, Achamore sits within 54 acres of beautiful mixed woodland. From the late 1940’s to 1972, the then owner of the isle, Sir James Horlick, used Achamore to continue breeding a range of Rhododendron hybrids, originally started at Titness Park near Windsor. Now known as the Horlick Collection, these plants were bestowed to the National Trust for Scotland and through their benevolence many still continue to thrive in the garden as well as in other NTS gardens.. The walled garden contains a diverse plant collection, many

herbaceous, and is a great place to loiter. At the top of the garden, sitting on an ancient organic ridge is the viewpoint. Here there are some fantastic panoramas over the rugged west coast of Gigha and further out to the isles of Islay and Jura. The island contains several small intimate beaches accessed by foot. Accommodation, meals and
refreshments are available at the Gigha Hotel. Meals and camping facilities may also be had at the Boathouse while cycling and water sport equipment may be hired from the Boat Shed. B and B is also available elsewhere on the island (see website for details).
