The Month Banky W. Yes /No

Label: EME In my opinion there’s a thin line between some of the Afrobeats and RnB songs these days. Nigerian artist Bankole Wellington better known as Banky W knows this oh so well, hence the name of his current album ‘RnBW’. Banky’s latest hit ‘Yes/No’ produced by Cobhams Asuquo personifies the Afro-Rnb cocktail and so does the video, co-directed by Clarence Peters and Banky W himself. We’re talking soulful melodies over African percussion with a touch of old school magic. So strong is W’s hit song that Ghanaian songstress Raquel has recorded a sensational cover. Whatever Happened to Neneh

Cherry Before there was Kelis or even Azealia Banks there was the ultimate bad girl we loved to love Swedish born Neneh Cherry. Along with her wild hair she brought us hits like ‘Buffalo Stance’ and ‘7 Seconds’ with Youssou N’Dour but in recent years has become a bit of an anomaly, popping up now and again on a collab or newly formed group. Last of which was experimental jazz group The Thing. Their most recent release was the 2012 album ‘The Cherry Thing”, proving that though Neneh’s edge may have faded with age her talent is still world class!

House Duke Dumont featuring A*M*E (Skream remix) Need U (100%) Blasé Boys Club | Turbo Recordings Star rating:H H H H

When man of the moment Duke Dumont first placed his Need U (100%) out there to the world in mid February, with refreshing vocals from London based A*M*E he had remixers tripping over their decks to work on it but we’re to thank Croydon based Skream for breaking the Dubstep mold he’s so widely well known for and camping up this

deep house/ UK garage track to produce a sound that’s representative of two decades ago. This 80’s sounding throwback has aspects of the legendary Inner City and is unsurprisingly setting dance floors worldwide alight.

Hip Hop Cappadonna - Eyrth, Wynd and Fyre

Star rating:H H H H The unofficial 10th member of the Wu Tang Clan is back. The album title encompasses the elements of his life - Fire being truth, Wind being substance and Earth being strength. Such an analogy is typical of the talented soloist.

Two of my favourite tracks off the album are ‘Pull Yourself Together’ and ‘ Puffed On Pride’ produced by J Glaze. These have a nice blend of conscious lyrics with an almost jazz/ old skool Hip Hop beat. Many of the

album’s tracks are insights into the lessons Cappadonna has learnt throughout his life. Tracks ‘ Real life’ and ‘Boogah Hill’ depict this perfectly. The hip hop purist will love this double album, especially disc 1, there’s no doubt Cappadonna is still going strong. Wu Tang Forever!
