12 EVENT REVIEW Comedy Face Off
It’s been a long time since I’ve done a comedy night and with top billing going to Slim The Comedian and Eddie Kadi I was prepared for a night of streaming tears and bellyaching laughter. The guys did not disappoint.
Brought to Fairfield Halls’ Ashcroft Theatre by Harmony Productions, Comedy Face/Off also saw relative newcomers (well to me anyway) A-Dot and Kane Brown rock the stage. Newcomers that I’ll be keeping an eye out for as they comfortably held their own onstage. Well apart from Kane Brown’s rocky start with a very un-PC onslaught directed at members of the first row. Thank goodness I was comfortably perched a good 20 rows back!
Comedy Face/Off was more than just comedy it was an education. I felt like I was back at school. Their lessons were invaluable, if let’s say you wanted to learn how to differentiate between Africans
and Caribbeans, or as a young woman judging whether to respond to catcalls. According to A-Dot this all depends on the level of your “FASHAL MALFUNSHONS” (repeat in strong African accent for full effect). Or even whether it’s safe to slow wine with a man’s girl in BIM (Barbados), host Kevin J dropped that one on us. ‘Swear down’ these were practical life lessons no Londoner could do without.
From tales of parenthood to current affairs – the Oscar Pistorius scandal, a la Slim has an altogether more hilarious slant, and race relations – imagine a 9yr old Slim furious having experienced ‘Roots’ and the Kunta Kente foot scene. No white friends
