Lindsay Hard began her college career as a traditional student. She was completing studies in elementary and special education when she discovered that her true passion was working with much younger children and their families. Though the shift would be a setback for her, she had to make that switch. Lindsay regrouped and earned an associate’s degree in early childhood education.
Working at the accredited Otter Creek Children’s Center in Middlebury, Vt., was a great match for Lindsay, but like so many other early childhood educators in Vermont and across the country, she faced new expectations for classroom teacher qualifications. She would need to return to college to complete a bachelor’s program.
Lindsay quickly discovered that to complete a degree program in her area, she would need to quit working. That was when she found the Springfield College School of Human Services bachelor’s degree program.
“The program was perfect for me,” says Lindsay. “I continued working full-time and went to campus only on the weekends I had classes. The layout of the program allowed me to stay fully committed to my job and my students. And I was able to finish in 16 months!”
“I apply what I learned at Springfield College every day in my classroom. We work hard to make the children and their families feel welcomed, to build community within the classroom, and provide a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for children.”
