Mind, Body & Soul Pilates for all
Pilates, a brilliant and effective non-impact form of exercise that can be done at any stage of your life no matter what gender or ability you are. Pilates focuses on good posture, core control, balance, flexibility and coordination. You will learn how to use your body efficiently, minimising strains on the muscles and stresses on the joints.
Why Do Pilates?
Pilates has a lot of benefits and people do it for many different reasons. One of them is to help recover from an injury. It is a non-impact exercise so it doesn’t put joints under stress and it helps strengthen and stabilise muscles that might be weak after injury. It also helps correct posture and increase flexibility preventing injury in future.
Some people use it for cross training purposes. Having good core strength, posture and flexibility is vital for any training. It can improve your performance and prevent injuries. If you do a sport, train in the gym or even if you hold prolonged postures in your everyday job you may experience repetitive movements, stresses and strains to the body, causing particular muscles to tighten up and certain postures to be adopted. Pilates can help re-balance the body, correcting any muscular or postural imbalances. It can be done on a rest day from training to
help the body recover. Others do it for general fitness. After
sitting in an office all day it feels great to stretch and tone the body. It is a great way to relax with its slow and controlled movement. It will teach you to breathe efficiently, which is very important for energy, fitness levels and relaxation.
In a one to one situation Pilates can be
adapted to your specific needs. Working on strengthening or stretching specific areas, avoiding certain movements that due to injury or health you need to avoid, or help you to advance your training. I would recommend having a one to one before starting a Pilates class to make sure you get the most out of your training.
It sometimes holds the stigma that it
is just for women but many men are now taking part, including professional sportsmen. Pilates was actually named after the man who created it, Joseph Pilates.

A Brief History
Joseph Pilates was born 1883 in Germany but was not well as a child and suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. He dedicated his life to improving his physical fitness.
Pilates studied bodybuilding, yoga and gymnastics. He came to believe that modern day living, bad posture and inefficient breathing were the cause of poor health.
Pilates devised a series of exercises and training techniques and engineered all the equipment to teach the method. Pilates will help you re-balance your body and become aware of your habits, strengths and weaknesses.
