Twenty-five years at Tudor Park… and still loving it
WHAT do Darling Buds of May, Take That, and Amanda Holden have in common?
They are among the many celebrities who have stayed at Tudor Park, a Marriott Hotel and Country Club, in Bearsted, near Maidstone since it opened 25 years ago.
Hundreds of famous signatures, doodles and even artwork from the late TV presenter Mark Speight, are all in an autograph book, which has been carefully looked after over the years by the hotel’s concierge, Roy Loveland, who has been with Tudor Park from the very beginning.
He is one of half a dozen members of
staff who have worked at the hotel since it opened in 1988 and recently celebrated becoming part of the Marriott Quarter Century Club – their loyalty earning them free stays in the organisation’s hotels around the world.
“The main thing that keeps us here is
the staff. Everyone gets on very well. If you are not happy in your work you can’t do your job,” says Roy, 50, from Bearsted.
The hotel was originally built by the
Whitbread Group and officially opened by chairman, Sam Whitbread on April 29, 1988. It became part of the Marriott portfolio in 1996.
Audley Mote House champions local produce from Kent
AUDLEY Mote House retirement village near Bearsted is now a member of Produced in Kent.
Membership to this
organisation allows the Romney restaurant and bistro, which is open to non-residents, to showcase local food, drink and products.
The Ambrette, Margate and Rye
THE Ambrette Restaurants in Margate and Rye have been named “Best in the South East” by the Cobra Good Curry Guide – despite not serving curry.
The Margate restaurant already boasts an AA rosette, is recommended in the Michelin Guide, and is in the Sunday Times’ Top 130 restaurants list.
Pat Chapman, editor of the guide, said: “Of the 9,000 Indian restaurants in the UK, The Ambrette is one of the elite few - it is a fantastic achievement.”
Chef and owner Dev Biswal, who
describes his food as culinary art, says he hopes this latest award will encourage the next generation of Indian chefs and restaurateurs to be more adventurous with their menus.
He said: “Because we don’t serve curry or have any of the usual dishes like chicken tikka masala or lamb korma on our menu, I never expected my cooking to be recognised by Pat’s curry bible.”
