Dave Brown CORNISH FOOD MARKET

Cornishfoodmarket.co.uk is all about us linking you, the consumer, with our amazing local suppliers in the most efficient and cost effective way possible. Yes, we like to sell you everything you need for your weekly grocery shop, including the washing powder, shampoo, loo rolls and all the rest, but what really excites us is bringing you the best local produce available. This includes a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, diary produce and all the store cupboard staples. We are all aware of how adding fish to your diet can have numerous health benefits. These include the lowering of cholesterol and enjoying the natural Omega-3 fatty acids in oil-rich fish – which are thought to have specific properties that calm and balance the immune system. We source our fish from Mathew Steven’s & Son, who land their fresh fish every morning from the West Country coastline.

Matthew Steven's & Son only use E Grade Fish

(European Quality & Freshness Grade Classification) which is the highest grade available on the market and is not something every supplier can promise. They operate in a specialist factory based in St Ives preparing produce from a variety of markets and suppliers including the ports and day boats of Newlyn, Plymouth, Appledor, Brixham and Looe. All scallops are shuck on-site straight from the local day boats which means the shells are not opened until the moment before a client places an order, helping to retain optimum freshness. Highly skilled filleters cut fish specifically to order which reduces wastage and gives excellent value for money. Fish can be scaled filleted and pin-boned - all done by hand. Bass and Bream are procured whole and then filleted by hand in the factory - allowing the fillets to remain firm and to hold good texture. Matthew Stevens & Son work closely with Rick Stein's eateries & Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall.
