ASSOCIATE COUNCIL NEWS A
Kicking off the New Year with Good News of Growth
s we embark on 2013, we pause briefly to reflect on 2012. The Associate Council
had a great year under the leadership of Tony Boilek with Sherwin Williams. Thank you to Tony, the committee chairs, committee members, and volunteers.
The Associate Council kicked off the year with Senator Dan Patrick as the luncheon speaker. Senator Patrick shared his optimism for the future growth of Houston, very good news for our industry. At the Annual GHBA Forecast Luncheon, Mike Inselmann shared the same optimistic outlook for 2013 and beyond with 15 to 20 percent growth predicted for this upcoming year.
I am excited to see all of our businesses grow, and the Associate Council too! As we embark on continued growth let’s continue to welcome new members to our association. If you see someone with a green dot on their name tag or don’t know someone, please take a moment and get to know them. The power of our association is in our members.
Mark your calendar for the council’s annual Chili & Salsa Cookoff on Friday, February 8. It
is a great event where we enjoy chili, salsa, great people and some adult beverages. Bring some of your employees, customers or friends. Also, we raise money for HomeAid Houston, so come ready to eat some home- made ice cream and help eliminate home- lessness in Houston.
The 83rd Texas Legislature kicked off in January with what will be an important year. We have a unique opportunity on February 20 to attend Rally Day. It is a don’t- miss opportunity to support our industry and share with our legislators our views. Sign up to ride a bus over to Austin and enjoy the day learning about the legislative process while supporting our industry. It’s only $35 sign up now online at
www.ghba.org/register.
The Associate Council is your council; please let me or one of the other board members know your ideas for improvement or how we can help you get involved.
You won’t want to miss our Purchasing Managers forum on February 8, featuring three of Houston's top builders. Hope to see you there.
The 26 homebuilders in this survey account for approximately 74% of the new single family housing activity in the Houston market, according to their 2011 activity. Based on this percentage, we can assume that the Greater Houston Area sold approximately 1,729 new homes during the month of December 2012. Report by Metrostudy
