What we're up to... GHBA 4th Quarter Report Card—2012
The GHBA staff is always busy looking for ways to improve member services, advocacy and education. Following is a quick look at what the association has been up to lately.
; Benefit Homes Project
The Benefit Homes Project received net proceeds of more than $225,000 from the Chesmar Homes / NewQuest Properties Benefit Home in The Reserve at Brazos Town Center. All three Benefit Homes charities were presented with checks in the amount of $52,226.
; Membership
GHBA ended the year as the largest home builders association in the state of Texas and as the third largest in the country. We added 80 new members in the fourth quarter of 2012, and renewed more than 200 members.
; Councils & Committees Sales & Marketing Council
The Houston’s Best PRISM Awards wel- comed the return of longtime GHBA member and supporter, Mark Cady with Flagstone Lending as the Title Sponsor. A record number of entries (478) were received for the 2012 event, held at the Hilton Americas in downtown Houston.
More than 700 guests were welcomed to an elegantly decorated ballroom under the theme of “Unveiling the Masquerade.” Guests were adorned with Mardi Gras style beads and masks and were treated to an evening of splendor. Thanks to all of our wonderful spon- sors and the entire Sales & Marketing Council (SMC) team.
The SMC ended its banner year with an awesome networking event at The Tasting Room. A huge crowd was on hand to cheer on the third quarter’s Top Producers as they received their certificates for top sales persons of the quarter. This was also election night
for the new SMC board. More than 20 SMC members campaigned and worked to crowd for the few coveted open positions on the 2013 board. Thanks to the event sponsors and annual SMC underwriters.
Custom Builders Council
In October, the Custom Builders Council (CBC) luncheon featured Matt Molander of Molander Waterproofing, who led an in-depth discussion on waterproofing balconies and half walls and shared why waterproofing fails or succeeds.
The annual GHBA Product EXPO, pre- sented by the CBC each year, was a sell-out with a record number of builders, developers and remodelers visiting the participating exhibitors.
November’s CBC luncheon featured cus- tom builders who have embraced working with realtors, and the realtors who success- fully sell new custom home construction.
Montgomery Co. Builders & Developers Division
The Montgomery County Builders and Developers Division (MCBDD) took a break in October after completing its hugely successful golf tournament in late September. November brought the division’s annual forecast luncheon at The
GRAND CHAMPIONS, Suncoast Post-Tension Inc. Associate Council's 2012 BBQ & Wild Game Cookoff
Woodlands Waterway Marriott, featuring Mike Inselmann of Metrostudy. Later that month MCBDD had a great builder- focused networking event at Grotto in The Woodlands, generously hosted by Bison, A Stock Building Supply Company.
Remodelers Council
The Remodelers Council (RMC) kicked off the quarter with Clayton Farmer HERS, LEED AP, GBV, GBE, CEA, LEED-H GR, IECC, GBI, senior vice president of Bluegill Energy Management, leading a discussion on green remodeling and the GHBA’s Green Built Gulf Coast initiative.
October also brought a Halloween-themed networking event at Cabinets & Designs, complete with lots of fantastic costumes!
In November, the council hosted “RMC Live!” an interactive Q&A session that addressed tough questions from our newest remodelers, answered by our most seasoned (and enteraining!) remodelers.
At December’s annual holiday party, the Leo Meerman Scholarship was presented and 2013 GHBA President Harry Masterson performed the installation of the council’s 2013 board of directors.
Associate Council
The October Associate Council luncheon featuring purchasing managers, Andrew Foote with Partners In Building and Margi Richmond with K. Hovnanian, as guest speakers with 81 people in attendance.
The council also welcomed the return of Family Day at Dewberry Farms, with a great turnout.
November’s guest speakers Mike Feigin, Design Tech Homes, and Scott Frankel, Frankel Building Group, discussed the “Challenges in Custom Home Building.”
