Attendees will problem-solve certain evacuation scenarios with critique and discussion.

Attendees will learn the appropriate location, direction, and installation of the car seat including the proper securement of the child.

Workable strategies to address and manage challenging behavior of students with autism will be presented.

9:00 AM - 11:00 AM “COMPLIANCE & SHARED SERVICES: COMPLIANCE” Head Start & Preschoolers Presenter(s): Russ Newbold Description: Overview of Performance Standards Section 1310 ensuring transportation policies and procedures are understood and being followed. Shared Services Compliance: Outlining the school bus as an extension to the classroom. Compliance to Performance Standards Governing Children and Family Services. This is an open forum for comments and suggestions from all participants.


9:00 AM - 1:00 PM “STUDENT MANAGEMENT AND HR: HOT TOPICS IN LAW AND POLICY” Management Presenter(s): Peggy Burns, Mark Hinson Description: It takes excellent, well-trained personnel to create a school bus environment that is supportive of safety and readiness for learning. In this lively interactive session, we’ll explore key concepts in the intersection of personnel practices and student management.


11:15 AM - 1:00 PM “SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH EMOTIONAL DISABILITIES ON THE SCHOOL BUS” Disabilities & Special Needs Presenter(s): Mark Deschaine Description: Students with emotional disabilities present transportation staff with unique issues and challenges. There are many effective interventions that can assist transportation staff when dealing with these issues and challenges. This session will discuss the etiology of emotional disabilities.


11:15 AM - 1:00 PM “COMPLIANCE & SHARED SERVICES: CASE STUDIES IN EXEMPLARY SERVICES” Head Start & Preschoolers Presenter(s): Jay Thurber, Russ Newbold Description: In this workshop we will discuss the Head Start Performance Standards requirements for monitoring and meeting the guidance outlined in the head start legislation.
