My Baby Goodbye,” “Saddle Tramp,” “The South’s Gonna Do it Again,” “Long Haired Country Boy,” “Sidewinder,” and “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” just to name a few. As always, Charlie filled the stage with musi- cians for an old style jam on “Devil.” I myself was unable to attend the show, but my friend Scott says all three bands were excellent, and he’s not one to just pass out compliments un- less he means it. ANother Angelus event had come and
gone,fSunday morning we were back on the road for the 8-hour drive home, already antic- ipating next year’s event.
ABOUT THE ANGELUS The Angelus is a place to live, to love and to
learn. It is the home for severely handicapped persons who are not able to care for themselves. All of the residents have cerebral palsy, or are confined to wheelchairs. Most are nonverbal, some are blind, some are deaf, some are mentally retarded, some have normal intelligence, but all understand kindness and love. The Angelus was founded in St. Petersburg Florida in 1979, and within a few short months it became home for a group of children ranging in age from 2 to 12 years of age. The home was partially supported by state funding, but the founders continued to work at night to supplement the meager support. They later became a nonprofit organization so that they could begin to accept charitable gifts. The Angelus now has five group homes provid-
ing quality care for 36 residents. Improvements to the Angelus are constantly being needed. It has become increasingly complex and costly for the Board of Directors and fundraising committee to raise the added revenue to subsidize the lacking government funding. With the dedication of Charlie Daniels and countless celebrities and artists and the continued support of the commu- nity, the goals and philosophy of the Angeles will be maintained, and the quality of life for these people who cannot help themselves will be assured.
