CANGELS AMONG US

GATHER TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE ANGELUS

by Michael Buffalo Smith I was pretty darn excited. After all, I had

missed the last two Angelus get togethers, and it left me with a feeling of emptiness. I mean, the event has become such a staple of my life, something I look forward to every single holiday season. In fact, this year’s 22nd annual Charlie Daniels Celebrity Golf Classic & An- gelus Country Concert marked my 11th Angelus event. Again, my

pal Scott Greene and I hit the road on Wednesday, driving down into Florida before stopping overnight. It works out well. We end up at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at noon or one in the afternoon on Thursday, al- lowing for plenty of time to check in, say hello to all of our friends, pick up credentials, buy a program book and chill out until time for me to perform in the Lobby Bar at 430 PM or so.

Rob Donbar Photo HARLIE DANIELS AND MANY OTHERS We ran into several friends right off the bat,

including our long time Angelus friends Tom and Ann Bell. We got our luggage into the room and secure and headed down to The Green Room restaurant for lunch, bumping into one friend after another, including my pal Bruce Brown, guitar slinger for The Char- lie Daniels Band. I also got to speak to Danielle Di- Gregorio, whom I had not seen since the passing of her husband and my buddy Taz on Octo- ber 12, 2011. What a sweetie. It’s always

like a family reunion at An- gelus. I must have hugged a hundred peo- ple. Of course

there was the lady who makes it all happen, Tammy Williams, as well as friends like Lori Putman, Freddy Mack the transportation chief, sound man Pete McCaffrey, Mike McLaughlin in the hospitality room, and a new friend, a sweet bartender named Sum- mer in hospitality.
