QROOI News January 2013

left in the “frigid north” as you enjoy the warmth and sun.

Being the “off season” for Quarter Horse Racing in Ontario, many take this opportunity to give the horses a break from the usual training regimen, and maybe even take a vacation them- selves. We wish “bon voyage” to those who are off to a warmer climate for any length of time at this time of year. Please fondly remember those

The QROOI Board continues to represent Ontario’s Racing Quarter Horsemen we enter the next phase of development of Ontario’s changing Horse Racing Industry. All are encouraged to watch for future announcements on the QROOI website – http://www.qrooi.com and in the electronic communication tools QROOI uses to issue news and updates. The current situation is quite fluid, requiring the association’s con- sistent surveillance and review. Quarter Horsemen are not

immune to the hay shortage situation Ontario finds itself. No one needs to tell you the dry conditions Ontario experienced in 2012 have caused a severe shortage of quality hay. As an organization, QROOI is keeping up to date with the availability of hay as it becomes known. One source all own- ers can use is the web site Ontario Hay Listings (www.ontariohaylistings.ca.) There are other sites that can be accessed as well. A “Google search” for Ontario Hay provides a variety of connections for available hay. We all know that horsemen help horsemen. This combined effort has always been

a main characteristic of Ontario’s Quarter Racing Horse community. We know we stand stronger when we stand together.

On a more positive note, your association is working with the Ontario Quarter Horse Racing Industry Devel- opment Program Administrator to assure the Benefits Package that is a part of this very successful program are renewed for the coming year. We are pleased to advise this has been secured for the first quarter of 2013. Further information on this item will follow. We wish all those eligible for AQHA Canadian Champion recogni-

tion the best of luck. AQHA is a world renowned organization. Ontario’s entries recently have been prominent representatives at this level. Having Ontario representatives recognized as AQHA Canadian Champion furthers our province’s place in the racing world.

We look forward to seeing every- one back to the track in 2013. The exact format of the 2013 season is still being confirmed. Please refer back to the QROOI web site often as con- firmed news will be released using that medium first.

If a horse’s lifetime points (all divisions and levels combined) equals 10 or more points, the horse is not eligible for Rookie competition in that class.

6. Green eligibility is determined by the lifetime points earned by the horse on a per class basis.

If a horse has earned over 25 lifetime points in particular class, all divisions and levels combined, the horse is not eligible to compete in Green in that class. Once a horse has progressed out of Green, the horse may continue competing in Green for the remainder of the year. The horse will never be able to compete in Green in that particular class after its last year of Green eligibility.

7. All other levels – Novice, Interme- diate, Progressive and Open – are based on points earned by the exhibitor/horse in the past three years (all divisions and levels com- bined).

To compete in a Novice level class, the exhibitor must hold either a Novice amateur or Novice youth membership card. The conditions of Novice membership are outlined in Rule SHW245.
