AQHA Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr. explains the decision to select Amarillo for future Adequan Select World Championship shows

Select World Show

The American Quarter Horse Association, January 4, 2013 - Recently, an announce- ment was made that the Ameri- can Quarter Horse Association’s Adequan Select World Champi- onship Show will stay in Amar- illo for another three years. Watch this video as AQHA

Executive Vice President Don Treadway Jr. explains exactly what all goes into a major deci- sion like selecting a venue for an AQHA world championship event.

For the last 10 years, Amarillo has been home to the Select World after AQHA creat- ed this new world championship

event exclusively for amateur exhibitors 50 and older. In that inaugural year, 307 entries com- prised the entire show. In 2012, that figure had ballooned by more than 300 hundred percent, with 1,273 entries vying for one of more than 43 coveted world champion titles and more than $500,000 in cash and awards.

AQHA Handbook Changes

The American Quarter Horse Journal - As the Ameri- can Quarter Horse Association has grown, so has the AQHA Official Handbook of Rules of Regulations. When members crack the spine on the 2013 AQHA Handbook, they will be looking at a newly reorganized rulebook with new rule num- bers.

“The AQHA Handbook will be available soon for digital viewing,” said AQHA Execu- tive Vice President Don Tread- way Jr. “Be sure to familiarize yourself with the new organiza- tion and rule numbers.”

The 2013 AQHA Hand- book is divided into sections. For example, rules in the Shows section all start with SHW. Rules regarding AQHA shows and show approval are SHW100-134, while all racing rules begin with RAC and all registration-related rules begin with REG.

Among the rule changes you’ll find in the 2013 AQHA Handbook are:

Leveling: The AQHA leveling program will go into full effect January 1, 2013. Classes will be leveled based on exhibitor records (youth, amateur, cattle and halter classes) and horse records (open classes). Leveling rules may be found in the SHW200 sequence of rule num- bers.

Amateur Eligibility: Amateur eligibility changes were made effective May 25, 2012, and will be included in the 2013 hand- book in the SHW200 sequence of rule numbers.

SHW416-419: Ranch pleasure will be offered in youth, ama- teur and open divisions at AQHA shows.

GEN117: A one-time change may be made to AQHA life memberships at no fee.

SHW100-134: A new show approval fee structure will be applied and new mileage charts
