2 Finance & Money Business (non-domestic) Rates

Non-Domestic Rates is the commercial/ business equivalent of Council Tax and is payable on every building, shop, office, factory - that is not somewhere that people occupy as a home.

The amount billed is based on the rateable value of the property multiplied by the rate per pound announced each year by the Scottish Government. The assessor sets the rateable value of your property and is required to carry out a revaluation every five years. Refer to the leaflet provided with your annual rates bill for more information and details of any relief which may be applicable. Approximately 15% of the council’s annual budget is derived from non-domestic rates as part of the Government’s grant settlement.

Non-domestic rates for East Renfrewshire Council are administrated and collected by Renfrewshire Council.

Access to Capital

Business loans are available to new and existing businesses to provide gap funding and to encourage the creation and growth of businesses which can contribute to the economy in terms of jobs. Loans can be used to purchase plant and equipment (new and used) and to provide working capital. A loan of up to 50% of the overall funding package up to a maximum of £50,000 may be available.

Our aim is to ensure that good, commercially viable proposals do not fail from a lack of access to finance. Additionally, we want to encourage and support the creation, development and growth of businesses within the Council area which will in turn be able to contribute to, and strengthen, our local economy in terms of jobs, growth and wealth.
