Adult Learning

The Councils’ Adult Learning Team provides adults with an opportunity to improve their skills whether for work or personal life.

Our delivery is focussed on developing peoples confidence in using core skills around literacies, numeracy and financial capability, ICT, problem solving and working together. The positive comments and feedback from those who have attended confirms that they have found the support has helped them be more competent and able in the workplace.

We provide English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision to help those where English is not their first language, to develop their communication skills, feel less isolated and to be more confident in the workplace or if seeking work.

Our recently revamped ICT provision ranges from complete beginner to European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL). Courses include ‘Using IT for employment’, ‘Getting started with the Internet’, ‘Internet for personal use’ and ‘Getting started with E-mail’.

ECDL is suitable for those who have good ICT skills but wish to become more proficient and gain accreditation.

It covers a range of areas including databases, spreadsheets, word processing and PowerPoint. ECDL requires a commitment to self study which we support through workshops. Funding with an Individual Learning Account (ILA) may be available for ECDL if an individual meets the eligibility criteria with an additional payment made by the individual or employer. Please refer to the website to find out more.

Employees can be referred directly to the service and a tailored programme of support be agreed or we can discuss with local employers how we could support employees within the workplace. Any one can self refer to the service.

All of our provision is tailored to meet the needs of the individual and contextualised to their own circumstances.
