Photographic voyages

Everybody wants that perfect photo to encapsulate their once-in-a-lifetime Arctic or Antarctic experience. Some of our polar voyages offer expert photographic tuition so you can hone your skills in special on-board workshops. There’s no need to know about cameras before-hand; workshops are offered at beginner and advanced level and everybody is welcome! During cruise days, you’ll learn about exposure and photo composition from photographers to improve your image results.

When to travel

The Arctic and Antarctica are special places to visit throughout their respective seasons; May to September for the Arctic, and October to March for the Antarctic. However, if you have special interests, this guide may help you decide:

The Arctic ■ 24-hour daylight is experienced from April to August, meaning you can make the most of every minute on-board

■ If you travel early in the season, or at the end, you’re likely to see more ice – a stunning frozen wilderness

■ Travelling late July or early August gives you the best chance of circumnavigating Spitsbergen as the ice breaks up

The Antarctic ■ In November, pack ice is breaking up and the birds are mating; sometimes with elaborate courtship rituals

■ In December and January, penguin chicks hatch and seal pups are born

■ February and March, see whale species gather, and you can head deeper into Antarctica on the most adventurous cruises
