Arctic - Greenland (Denmark)


West and Southern Greenland


This is a varied journey to the little-visited sounds and glaciers of west Greenland. Sail beneath the midnight sun and majestic fjords, visiting Inuit settlements and discovering abandoned villages and a fascinating Viking history. The area proliferates with icescapes, which you can appreciate up-close from a Zodiac for fantastic photographic opportunities.


Voyage itinerary


Day 1 Fly to Kangerlussuaq, near to the icecap that conceals more than 80% of Greenland.


Day 2 Sail to Qeqertarsuaq on the old volcanic island of Disko. Walk along the beach or to Blæsdalen.


Day 3 Ilulissat, meaning iceberg, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a Zodiac cruise to get close to this huge mass of ice. Day 4 Visit the second largest community in Greenland, Sisimiut.


Days 5 to 6 Explore Greenland’s capital and oldest town, Nuuk, and the abandoned mining village of Ivittuut.


Day 7 Take a Zodiac excursion amid the huge fjord complex of Narsaq. You may be able to spot minke whale here. Day 8 Discover some of the best-preserved ruins from the Norse period. Day 9 Sail beneath sheer granite rock faces in the Prins Christian Sund. Day 10 Cross the Denmark Strait to Iceland. Day 11 Explore the diverse landscapes of Grundarfjorour. Day 12 Arrive in Reykjavik.
