Janet is directly responsible for preventing people from becoming victims of scams and bad businesses. She serves on the BBB’s national communications task force and is a national media relations expert on call. As a media relations expert, Janet has spoken at multiple PRSA meetings and conferences and teaches Public Relations Ethics and Law as part of PRSA Charlotte’s Accreditation in Public Relations program. Janet served as President of the Public Relations Society of America’s Charlotte Chapter (PRSA) in 2011. Janet has produced two of the larg- est festivals and events in the world including the Southern California HydroFest in San Diego and the world-renowned Coconut Grove Arts Festival in Miami. She has contributed her expertise in media relations, corporate sponsorships, and logistics to more than 50 festivals and events across the country. Janet earned Accreditation in Public Rela- tions in 2009, and she completed Duke University’s non-profit manage- ment program in 2001. She graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1983. In 2011, Janet was named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Charlotte by The Mecklenburg Times. Originally from Boiling Springs, N.C., Janet lives in Charlotte with her Australian Cattle Herding Dog, Spotsy.

Mara Campolungo is held in high regard in the business community for 25 years as a marketing and branding expert. Deeply motivated by compassion, Mara has laid aside her many profitable endeavors to focus solely on philanthropic efforts. Mara’s current role as Co- founder of The Sandbox is a perfect culmination of her skills in build- ing brands and companies with her ability to generate innovative ideas for the purpose of helping people in a very tough situation. In this position, Mara and The Sandbox serve as the connector between children afflicted with cancer or life altering illness and a commu- nity of caring individuals and organizations inspired to lock-arms for a great cause. TheSandbox has become an overnight sensation in Charlotte, earning the awards of Charlotte Parent’s “Top 5 Charities”, Ignite Charlotte’s “Charity of Choice” and rallying the hundreds of vol- unteers, companies and budget needed within four months to host in 2011 the first, Evening of Believing, a prom for children with cancer and other life-altering illnesses. Mara has a B.A. degree in Commu- nications from SUNY Geneseo and a Graphic Arts Marketing degree from Drexel University. She is an active Board member of several non-profit organizations, advising on marketing and branding efforts, and is the author of numerous business publications. Mara speaks regionally about the importance of ‘locking arms with the commu- nity’ and has earned the Toastmasters, “Competent Communicator” designation for her speaking and coaching work with the Matthews Toastmasters Club.
