nternational Gateway Kelowna (IGK), Kelowna’s oldest private English as a Second Language (ESL) school celebrated its 10th
anniversary on May 11, 2012. IGK offers a wide range of ESL programs, ESL Action
Camps and Cambridge certificates. Cambridge certification is the world’s most popular English standard and IGK is the only testing centre outside of the Lower Mainland.
IGK’s motto is ‘English for Life.’ The school offers a very personalized approach to learning with an average class size of 6. Most students choose to live with one of the school’s caring host families to experience a real Canadian immersion.
It is estimated that international students spend $500-$900 per week year-round in Kelowna. The revenue that these students generate is very important to our community, especially in the off peak season.
The main challenges faced in Canada are
the strict visa regulations imposed on an ever-increasing number of countries including Mexico, Japan, Germany, India, Colombia and the Czech Republic. Therefore, in 2010, a 2nd
campus was
opened in Hopkins, Belize to offer an alternative for these countries. At International Gateway Belize (IGB), Executive and Family ESL programs are offered along with scuba diving training, volunteer placements and an ECO adventure camp - all located in an ocean front resort campus.

Over the past decade IGK has hosted over 5000 students aged 3 - 79 from over 30 countries. IGK looks forward to another 10 years!
