The airport’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee hosted a safety fashion show and BBQ during North American Safety and Health Week on May 10 to focus employees, tenants and the airport community on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home and in the community. “At the airport, safety is our number one priority,” explained Airport Director Sam Samaddar. “Our families have the right to expect us to all come home uninjured at the end of the workday. This will be achieved if we all make safety our business.”

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING :

Hello Kelowna Airport I am writing to thank you for such a pleasant experience in your airport last Sunday as we started our long journey back to Scotland. All your staff from check in through to security, restaurant and shops were so courteous, good natured and friendly - a real credit to you and to Canada generally. Thanks again to all for making it by far my best ever experience of air travel. Best wishes Marjie

WATER SALUTE TO AN AVIATION PIONEER

On Friday May 11 the YLW Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting crew showed their respect to Arnie Schreder, former Buffalo Airway’s chief pilot and key subject in the documentary series “Ice Pilots”, with a water salute. Arnie passed away May 4 in Lake Country BC after a lengthy battle with cancer. Members of his family flew with Arnie’s body in this DC3 to Yellowknife for the memorial service. We extend our deep condolences to Arnie’s spouse Janet, daughters Yvette and Kaitlyn and the rest of his family.
