UNVEILED 2012 WHAT TO EXPECT THIS YEAR!
E3 INNOVATION
by jake london sawa For those of you who have no idea what E3 is, let me break down this annual three-day
awesome event for y’all. E3 takes place Tuesday, June 5 through Thursday, June 7 at the Los Angeles Convention Center
and is the world’s premier tradeshow for computer/video games and their related products. The show is owned by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), which is the U.S. association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of the companies that publish interac- tive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers and the Internet (from
e3expo.com). This major show is just around the corner and every day more news is being released about what has become one of the biggest video game events of the year. E3 is where most games get to show off to each other and to industry professionals. It is the event that every gamer wants to go to, but few can. There are going to be some hot new titles on the showroom floor such as Halo 4, possibly God of War; Ascension and you can’t forget Wii-U and all it will have in store for fans. Here is a little of what we can expect from the top companies who will be on the sho and what us Gaymers are predicting:
ompanies who will be on the showroom floor oom
MICROSOFT STUDIOS Microsoft Studios may just be a publisher to keep an eye on this year’s E3. While we’re aware of a flood of XBLA releases on the horizon, the publisher’s big-name console re- lease list is looking a little thin. So, I’m hoping it means that we’re in for a big surprise from Microsoft this E3. Whether or not Microsoft has something hidden up its sleeve, here are a few titles we’re expecting to see: Fable:The Journey, Forza Horizon, Dust: An Elysian Tail and of course Halo 4.
SQUARE ENIX Last summer’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution
CAPCOM Capcom will definitely be turning a lot of
heads this year at E3, but they have yet to an- nounce their full lineup of games to be show- cased. This leads to one obvious question: So what are they hiding? The unknown is what makes Capcom’s E3 presence so intriguing and the upcoming games we already know about certainly merit some attention on their own. We fully expect to see these five titles (and possibly more) at Capcom’s booth: Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, Street Fighter X Tekken (Vita), Lost Planet 3, DmC:Devil May Cry, and of course Resident Evil 6.
and the early 2012 release of Final Fantasy XIII-2, have put Square Enix in a great position, leading the publisher to some big profits for fiscal 2012. Yet no company in this industry can rest on their laurels, so what do they have to show us at E3 2012 to keep their momen- tum going? Square Enix has much more than just
Final Fantasy to offer and even though 2012 includes the official re-launch of the much- maligned MMO Final Fantasy XIV, this iteration is likely to be overshadowed by some inter- esting re-interpretations of long-standing properties, some quirky new experiences and a few big titles for Nintendo’s 3DS handheld console. It’s looking like a strong showing for Square Enix this year—check out what you can expect to see: Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, and Sleeping Dogs.
SONY Last but certainly not least and to close out
the companies being highlighted, Sony is gearing up for a killer pre-E3 2012 conference this year, with the publisher promising to lift the lid on 20 new “experiences” on Monday, June 4. Their statement didn’t clarify what those “experiences” would be, but there’s enough information out there to make a few educated guesses. This is what we can expect from Sony’s show; including big hitters God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Kara, LittleBigPlanet Karting, as well as a slew of PS Vita exclusives including Killzone, Soul Sacrifice, Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and much, much more. My personal bet is that Sony will clearly take
the cake at this year’s E3, but we will find out the full details beginning on June 5! For tickets and information go to
