Les Misérables Cameron Mackintosh presents a brand
The Closeness of the Horizon How does our perception of ourselves and oth-
ers change as we age? How does who we thought we’d be, clash with who we have become?” True friendship is a journey and there is no roadmap in this world premiere “dramedy” inspired by true events. On the very same day that Neil Armstrong walked on the moon during the sum- mer of ‘69, three teenage friends from L.A.’s west side set-out on a six-week tour, drumming-up basketball pick-up games across the country. Is it possible for three high school friends to recon- nect after 25 years? Forty-something Paul Lewin must reconcile the expectations he once held with the reality of what he, Stein and “G” are now. The show is presented by CoffeeHouse Produc- tions and runs through Sunday, June 24 at the Odyssey Theatre, 2055 S. Sepulveda Boulevard in L.A. For tickets or information call 323.960.1054 or go to

new 25th anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg’s legendary musical, Les Misérables, with glorious new staging and dazzlingly re-imagined scenery inspired by Victor Hugo’s paintings. Based on his classic novel, Les Misérables is an epic story about Jean Valjean, a convict released from a French prison after 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread and for trying to escape. When he arrives at the town of Digne, no one is willing to give him shelter. He knocks on the door of M. Myriel, a bishop who treats him with kindness, only to be repaid by having his silverware stolen. When the police arrest Valjean, Myriel covers for him, claiming that the silverware was a gift. Upon his release, Myriel makes Valjean promise to become an honest man. The magnificent score includes the classic songs such “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” and “Stars.” Runs Tuesday, June 12 through Sunday, June 24 at Segerstrom Center For The Arts, 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa. Re-Animator™ The Musical Re-Animator The Musical follows the
plot of the 1985 film, told mostly through brilliant songs by composer/lyricist Mark Nutter. A dedicated student at a medical college and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue when an odd new student arrives on campus. The team behind the gore effects for the film were also involved in this production and re-create ef- fects for the stage. The blood flows so freely, in fact, that the first four rows of seats are des- ignated as the “splash zone.” The show runs through Sunday, July 8 at The Hayworth, 2511 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Inventor, The Escort, The Photographer, Her Boyfriend and His Girlfriend This West Coast premiere is an outrageous sex
romp, juxtaposing two lusty comic scenarios involv- ing five people in a New York City apartment building during a fierce blizzard. Downstairs, Julia, a call girl, arrives for an appointment with Jeffrey, a nerdy guy who has made a fortune inventing and selling sexual devices. What begins as a routine ‘trick’ has quite the unexpected ending. Upstairs neighbors Karen and John, an estranged couple, settle in for an evening of sweet reconciliation and make-up sex. Their plans go awry however, when Molly, a dancer with whom John had casual encounters, shows up seeking refuge from the blizzard; drunken lunacy ensues. The show runs through Sunday, July 8 at The Lounge Theatre, located at 6201 Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood. For tickets and information call 323.960.7712 or go to
