THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Five years ago we put our creative minds together to produce a community publication unlike any

other. We wanted to bring to the table a magazine that highlighted our LGBT community; with top- quality interviews, the latest fashions, entertainment and local spotlights while making it fun and informative—without all the gossip, rumors and “yank & spank” ads you find in most publications. First and foremost we refuse to use any syndicated or re-purposed writing, PR released celebrity

photos, or stock photography for our covers and fashion spreads. We trademarked the unique name RAGE - Real, Art, Gay, Entertainment and like that name, everything we do inside is original out of respect to our readers and to highlight our talented community. This has been part of our mission statement since day one. A heartfelt “Thank You” to all of those that have supported us these past five years, another thank

you to my amazing staff, our writers and photographers and an even bigger thank you to all our advertisers who have stood by us, allowing us to keep the vision alive. Please help us to show them well-deserved thanks by supporting their businesses.

REGARDS, Jay S. Jones, Publisher

It’s been five years for The Rage Monthly and in that time we have covered a lot of ground. When I

took over as editor nearly two years ago, I didn’t really have the context to understand all that had been accomplished—but I am grasping the bounty every day. There are so many great interviews, stories and columns to peruse and I am embarrassed to say,

that I haven’t read all of them yet. It was a great project for me, to research the top choices for the anniversary article I wrote on page 42, because it taught me much about what I’ve missed and what can be accomplished when you put your mind to it. I am not someone that is terribly impressed by “movie stars” and never really have been. To me they

have always been just people, albeit talented (usually) in whatever capacity they are working and possessors of a great deal of drive. But for the most part, I generally believe them to be people that has been extremely lucky; fortune smiled on them enough to land them where they needed to be. They of course took the risk to do it, studying their craft to learn what they needed (well most of them anyway) and worked hard to keep it going. They may have fame and more money than many of us can imagine, but at their core, they are just as human as the rest of us. After all, haven’t you worked hard for what you have? If I have learned anything doing this job, it is that quality of “human-ness” is the common thread—I believe it even more now that I’ve had one-on-one conversations with some of the “famous” people between these pages. So thank you to them and to you our readers, for giving us your time and for making the last five

years memorable and for me personally, the last two. I am looking forward to more and can’t wait to see you all out there during the process! In the hear and now it’s Pride season and we have many things to look forward to and to be proud of

during this election year. For the first time in history, we have a sitting President and a Vice President that have “come out” in support of marriage—not just for some, but for us too. It seemed so far away back in November 2008, when we lost the fight against Prop 8 in California. That was a hard, cold slap in the face for most of us. Yet, the fight still rages on and step-by-step we are gaining ground. One notable turning point occurred in February of this year, when the constitutionality of Prop 8 was called in to question. Progress, sweet progress.

PRIDE IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN, IN THE PALM OF OUR HANDS.
