Kurtis McFadzen
Kurtis McFadzen doesn’t sit down for too long. This manager at Pyramid Corporation just doesn’t have time. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Kurtis, an instrumentation/ electrical manager at Pyramid, is married, has two young kids and spends a lot of his time volunteering. “As my kids get older, I can only imagine life will get even busier,” laughs Kurtis, who has lived in Redcliff for the better part of 12 years.

A 2000 graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Kurtis came to Redcliff right after he graduated. His wife got a job at the hospital and that meant
a move south. Today, he spends his days overseeing close to 40 employees for the company – which offers a broad range of services to oil companies including electrical/instrumentation maintenance and construction, control
panel manufacturing, meter proving and well testing.
And when he’s not driving to the company shops in Brooks or Drumheller or overseeing something at the Redcliff office, Kurtis is helping out in the community. He’s a volunteer firefighter in Redcliff, coaches his son’s hockey and soccer teams and volunteers his electrical abilities at both the Spectrum Festival and the Canada Day celebrations in Kin Coulee by helping to wire in the power required for both big events.
“I just like to help out whenever I can,” says Kurtis. “And I’d rather be out on the ice coaching the kids than sitting in the stands watching.”
Because sitting still is something that Kurtis doesn’t do very well.
He loves camping, going for quad rides and just recently bought a boat for the family. “We like to get out a couple of times a year,” says 33-year-old Kurtis.
As for career goals, this laid-back Lloydminster native is taking a wait-and- see approach. “I don’t know what the future holds,” Kurtis says. “I knew that I wanted to be a manager and I’m doing that now so I don’t really know what else I’m looking for. I just like what I’m doing right now.”
