News 20 Year Breeder’s Award
Congratulations to David and Sarah Deptford of Sovereign Quarter Horses, Cambridgeshire, on receiving the AQHA 20 Year Breeding Award. Sovereign Quarter Horses stands stallions Snippers Heirogance, Jays Smokin Story and Blazin Chic Olena and has produced more halter and performance youngstock than any other UK Quarter Horse producer.
NRBC Triumph for UK Rider
Francesca Sternberg topped the National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) Intermediate Non Pro in April riding Smart Like Valentino. The five year old Quarter Horse gelding, by Smart Like Juice out of Smart Little Jewel, scored a scorching 223.5 to help Francesca claim the Intermediate Non Pro title and $13,106. The pair also qualified for the Non Pro finals and finished in fifth place taking an additional $13,547, a saddle sponsored by Kyle Tack, a Gist Silversmiths buckle, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots and a Catena watch.
The NRBC is an annual event held at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas, and provides a place to show four, five and six year old horses by enrolled stallions. In just 14 years, the NRBC has grown to include nearly 200 subscribed stallions and an annual payout of over $1.4 million.
QUARTER HORSE STATISTICS
At the American Quarter Horse Association UK AGM at the end of March, it was announced that in 2011 there were a total of 2,866 Quarter Horses registered in the UK. The number of stallions standing at stud was 51 and 117 foals were born. There were also 181 ownership transfers and 207 Quarter Horse passports issued. For more on the AQHA UK visit

UK Stallion is NRHA $ Million Sire
British owned Quarter Horse stallion Smart Spook is the latest National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Million Dollar Sire. The 11 year old by Smart Chic Olena ($5 Million Sire) out of Sugar Plum Spook (by Million $ Sire Greys Starlight), has unofficial offspring earnings of $1,082,300. His British owner / breeder, Rosanne Sternberg, reached NRHA Million $ Owner status in 2010 with Smart Spook’s own record-breaking lifetime earnings contributing $403,150. His monumental wins include the NRHA Futurity, NRHA Derby and the AQHA World Show under $5 Million Rider Shawn Flarida.
