KENILWORTH COMBUSTION Stacey Lee

Kenilworth Combustion, with locations spotting Alberta and Saskatchewan, is ready to unveil is newest Process Heater Module.

Kenilworth has always focused on the sales and service of large heater modules, from 100,000 btu to 20 million btu, but has developed a smaller system in order to better serve the needs of smaller consumers.

"We’ve sort of missed out on the smaller line heater market typically used by gas utility companies and several producers out there who have smaller facilities. We had a few people see our pre-assembled units and they asked us to build something smaller. We took a look at it and decided to develop a new box… under 250,000 btu system,” says Kenilworth President Heine Westergaard.

The new module comes completely pre- assembled and quality tested, and would suit any need that requires 35,000 – 75,000

btu. Westergaard says the City of Medicine Hat would be a good example of his potential customer

because the system provides various advantages.

“We offer a lot of different alternatives when it comes to emissions reductions. We (can) capture fugitive vent emissions and bring that back into our burner systems. You don’t have any vented gas on site, and it is utilized in the burner system for additional pressure.”

The hot gas is introduced into a flu gas mixer and noxious emissions are reduced by up to 50 per cent. He explains that the system is fully controlled with an ignition flame that meets and exceeds all code requirements. The units are easily installed, and are inspected in the field.

“They are the equivalent of a Lennox furnace… they are a certified appliance.”

The brand new process heater modules range in price, from $8,500 to $50,000, but when compared to other systems currently

on the market it does offer savings.

“Right off the start, the units are ready to bolt on … there is a serious reduction in installation costs. You don’t get a box of parts… you get a completely assembled, tested system. You connect your power, connect your fuel gas supply and you’re ready to start.”

While the system was developed with small-medium gas co-ops in mind, Westergaard says there are other practical applications for the technology.

“There is plenty of new activity in Southern Alberta and they want to heat their tanks just a bit. They don’t need a large btu system; they can use this one for freeze protection.”

Kenilworth Combustion representatives will be on hand at the Southern Alberta Petroleum Show this May, ready to discuss the applications of their new Process Heater Module with industry.

Global Petroleum Show 2012 Carrie Kelly

The Global Petroleum Show really has to be experienced to be appreciated.

Taking place every second year in Calgary, the 2012 event is expected to unite 60,000 international leaders, engineers, industry professionals, field operators, and 2,000 service and supply exhibiting companies.

One of those exhibiting companies at the June 12 to 14 event is Environmental Refuelling Systems, based in Edmonton. The company has been part of the show before, using it as an opportunity to expose its services to a worldwide audience.

“It is absolutely a world class showcase,” says Todd Van Vliet, co- president of Environmental Refuelling Systems (ERS). “I encourage people to go who are even just curious about the Canadian oilfield. Seeing the equipment and walking around is an amazing experience. There is so much ingenuity that can be seen.”

ERS was born from Maury Van Vliet’s experience in the aviation fuel business and his desire to apply those standards to the oil patch and mining industries.

In October 2005, Maury started the company with his sons Todd and Scott.

“We discovered that, as with the aviation industry, there were similar problems dealing with fuel logistics in the remote areas for the oilsands. There was no infrastructure for fuel,” says Todd Van Vliet.

ERS started out as a tank company, but found there was a need to expand to include storage and distribution.

The company provides service for the complete fuel supply chain – from modern tanker units to fuel storage and dispensing systems to onsite collection of data allowing for immediate invoicing and reporting.

Environmental Refuelling Systems introduced its Frac Shack at the last Global Petroleum Show, something it will highlight once again.

Its patented Frac Shack fuel delivery system removes workers from the hot zone and eliminates atmospheric fuel spraying on the frac pad, especially critical around hot equipment.

The Frac Shack can save companies one to two hours each day in production down time, Van Vliet says.

In addition to playing host to so many exhibiting companies such as ERS, the Global Petroleum Show will feature a Career Expo, an International Energy Marketplace and a Heavy Oil Conference.

The inaugural SPE Heavy Oil Conference will provide international perspectives on best practices and technological advances in the exploration and production of heavy oil. Topics covered include in-situ recovery processes, reservoir evaluation, sustaining production and improving recovery of mature oil fields, development and application of new technology, environmental issues, alternative energy sources and much more.
