through their regular maintenance programs, test results. We will also get feedback, as far as fuel economy and savings because they are going to be running it side-by-side with something in their fleet that is a standard build.”

Provided testing of the initial concept goes well, production on a new line of ultra-light b-train units could go into production soon.
Although the concept trailer set has been allocated for the transportation of petroleum products, Kee admits that the new tank trailer has many additional applications.
“It would be good for almost any product. For people hauling crude oil or dry bulk cement, they could use this. We don’t want to stop at petroleum . . . that is just where we started.”
Super Train is a source of pride for AEP engineers, who, Kee says, are simply trying to build the best trailer possible to serve their customers better.

It has been a tedious design and production process under watchful eye.
“We have been working with the National Research Council and some other people and these (engineers) have been diligent in making sure that this concept is going to work for us; something we
“Our production is actually full for this year, so we wouldn’t be able to even entertain (production) until the New Year. That gives us several more months of trial runs… seeing how everything has come together. By then we should know if the prototype has gone together as well as we think it has.”
AEP representatives have a hectic spring and summer looming, having ensured their Super Train will be in numerous trade shows and events.
“We will be looking to gather market response and comments on the features that are on the trailer and based on that feedback there might be certain options that we make available immediately. This is a next generation showstopper… what we want to bring to the future of the transportation industry.”
Kee adds AEP is launching the prototype at the bi-annual Truck World Show April 19-21 at Toronto’s International Centre. He is also planning on displaying it in Calgary, Edmonton, and at the Petroleum Show in Medicine Hat on May 8-9 at the Cypress Centre.
