The Queens Diamond Jubilee Celebration Tuesday 5th June 2012

Warlingham gets ready to party

WARLINGHAM will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a giant picnic on School Common on the afternoon of Sunday, 3 June. The whole of Warlingham is invited to bring along a picnic and spend the afternoon in the sunshine and enjoy the entertainment.

The event will also feature a stage for local bands and other performers, a funfair, activities, games, demonstrations, arts and crafts, food stalls, a beer tent and lots of other things to see and do.

The Jubilee picnic is being organised by a working group of Warlingham Parish Council, comprising councillors and other members of the community. Working group chairman, Robin Bloore, said: “Rather than have a number of scattered street parties, we wanted to organise an event that will attract the

whole village to School Common, bringing the community together.

“While we are organising lots of things to keep people entertained throughout the whole afternoon, we also want to keep the feeling as relaxed and informal as possible. “Over the coming days we will be sending out invitations to as many local musicians and organisations as we can think of, but I’ll issue this public invitation now to anyone, or any organisation, that wants to get involved to contact us as soon as possible.” To find out more about the day, or how to get involved contact Warlingham Parish Council clerk Gina Caunt, at 26 Leazes Avenue, Chaldon, Caterham, Surrey, CR3 5AH.

Celebrate the jubilee with a picnic in the park

TO celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, Oxted Parish Council is hosting a Picnic in the Park on Sunday, 3 June in Master Park, Oxted from 2pm to 6pm.

Everyone in the Hurst Green and Oxted area is invited to bring along a picnic and spend the afternoon outdoors, joining in the festive fun. This free event promises a full programme of events and activities for all the family.

There will be an assorted variety of live music from local bands and singers throughout the afternoon alongside a range of children’s activities and a beer tent provided by Oxted Royal British Legion. Jubilee committee chairman,

Robert Wingate, said: “The Picnic in the Park is a free party for the people of Oxted to get together to celebrate our Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. “We hope that local families will

Benches, flowers and play equipment

OXTED Parish Council is celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee not only with a Picnic in the Park but in a variety of other ways too.

A painting competition is being held for eight to 10- year-olds at local junior schools and the subject is Queen Elizabeth II. The winner will earn his or her school £100 and the portraits will be displayed

in a marquee at the picnic. Three new public benches will also be installed to mark the occasion with two on Hurst Green Common and another near the junction of Silkham Road and Barnetts Shaw. Hurst Green Common will be the scene of a mass of colour next spring thanks to the planting of 500 daffodil bulbs by children from

Holland and Moor House Schools in September. Children will also benefit from the council’s last plan to install two new pieces of play equipment – one in Master Park and the other near the King George VI memorial playing field off Mill Lane. The fun ball games will be suitable for children aged five years and up and be accessible for wheelchair users.

THE RH7 History Group is staging an exhibition to co-incide with the jubilee entitled Fun and Games: 200 Years of Celebrations, concentrating on celebratory events from past years. It will run from Sunday, 3 June to Sunday, 10 June at the Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre.
