Jazz Night 21-Apr-2012

CUTTING A RUG AND HELPING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

W

hatever may be said about Hornchurch & Upminster Rotary Club they love

their music – and the hotter it is the better! So on a brisk Saturday even- ing in April, Club mem- bers, relatives and friends, supported, by Rotarians and friends from Gants Hill and Dagenham Clubs, shook their heels and waded into good Old Dixie Music, provided by Rex O’Dell and his jazz band ‘The Nicest People’.

T

his was Rex and his band’s third gig for Hornchurch & Upminster Club and as

usual the quality of the music was incredible, as witnessed by the attendance of the members of the Hornchurch Jazz Club who certainly knew their stuff.

T

he aim of this musical feast was two-fold – firstly musical enjoyment, but secondly

to help raise money for local charities – in this case, the very hall which the Club was using for its event – the Cranham Community Association Hall. Cranham is a lively part of Upminster and values its social interests, many of which have as their home the local Community Association hall – whether they be toddlers groups, a branch of the local library, the lively OAPs’ Club and social events like those of the night’s sponsors - the Rotary Club of Hornchurch & Upminster.
