Brett Jacobson, 26 Founder of Mediaworks www.mediaworks.co.uk www.facebook.com/mediaworksuk

1. Give us a brief outline of your company

Mediaworks is an online marketing company specialising in search engine optimisation and conversion rate optimisation. Working with national and international companies, Mediaworks allows companies and organisations to rank highly in the most popular search engines for competitive search terms.

2. What were you doing before starting your company? I was an undergraduate at Northumbria university. I have always lived in the north east and went to school here. It’s a great place to do business.

3. Where did you get the idea for your business? It was initially sparked off by a chance meeting with an entrepreneur in the area. It was a real life scenario that kicked off a thought process for me and since then it has been a million miles an hour. Mediaworks has evolved and is one of the leading SEO companies in the UK. We are working for international companies and have beaten companies three times our size to win certain contracts, others we are asked for directly, because of our reputation. A chance meeting turned into a real idea.

4. Where do you see yourself in the next 3 years?

In the next few months we intend to move offices as we don’t all fit in our current office! I am also looking at office space in London to service our clients. In three years I expect Mediaworks to have continued its growth and to have a presence in other continents.

Oliver Morgan, 20 Founder of Universal Fuels www.universalfuels.co.ukfacebook

1. Give us a 30 second pitch on your company.

Universal Fuels is a breath of fresh air in a matured monopolised industry striving to set new standards in customer care. As one of the fastest growing oil suppliers in the UK and an entrance into gas and electricity on the horizon we plan to give the majors a run for their money through innovation, better service and fairer pricing.

2. What has been your biggest challenge in setting up Universal Fuels? Any pitfalls/setbacks?

The biggest challenge from day one has been cash flow and credit. The

company was set up with very limited funds and of course couldn’t get any credit limits as a new company in 2009. Since 2009 we have taken on bank funding, earned trust with suppliers and now this recent investment has put us in a great cash flow positive position going forward.

3. Where do you see your company in 3 years? With large brand recognition as offering the best customer service in the energy sector. As one of the top 3 oil distributors in the UK and as the fastest growing supplier in gas and electricity.

4. What would you describe as your biggest achievement so far?

Being selected as one of the top future 50 companies by Real Business magazine and raising £100k investment through Crowdcube.
