Greg tells me that he started out as an IT Technician on the Thomas Cook trading floor earning £15,500 a year. However, surrounded by traders who were making significantly more money than him, he soon learnt from his colleagues and absorbed the experience, eventually moving departments to head up the team responsible for developing one of the first real-time ForEx trading platforms, the Virtual Trading Desk. His career quickly soared and at the age of 25, Greg was a Vice President at Mellon Financial Corporation, then a major Fortune 500 investment bank in the United States. Here, he was lucky enough to be working with some of the very best traders in the world. Secker then decided to retire as vice-president of the firm at just 27 to set up a trading floor from his home. “I started a mini trading floor in my living room and gradually, more and more of my friends and family joined me as I taught them trading strategies. It was great, but definitely a bit manic – I had friends camping out so that they could hit the markets as soon as they opened at 5 am!

As an international speaker, Greg is regularly called upon by the media for his expert opinion on market direction, speaking on most major market channels including CNBC and Bloomberg

Whilst I enjoyed those three months of trading at home, it was obvious that it couldn’t continue that way. I found that I loved teaching people about the markets, and that they were surprised at how easy trading could be. I decided that I wanted to show people that anybody can make a good trader, and so Knowledge to Action was born. The Knowledge to Action Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation committed to positively improving the quality of life for children around the world. Focusing on education, life skills and youth leadership initiatives, the foundation strives to equip young people with the essential building blocks of life. The Foundation is changing lives through its various programs: The Christmas Basket Brigade, Youth Mentoring Program, Early Childhood Development Programme (South Africa) and the Flying Trader Project. All the programmes aim to better the lives of children and the less fortunate.”

In the past 8 years, more than 90,000 people have attended Greg’s various trading seminars and workshops, where they learn how to produce a second or replacement income trading the stock and currency markets. Greg also mentions his wife, Katherine, who works very closely with him on his recent project, ‘Child Genius’ - educational products for children to guarantee they gain the best possible start in life. “The products include some brilliant audio software which we’re currently using with our six month old son, Zac. The software is designed to teach babies from 3 months upwards how to read, and we’ve found so far with Zac that it actually works!”

It seems youth work is a huge passion of Greg’s and he mentions further projects lined up within the field. Greg tells me he’ll be holding the Knowledge to Action Foundation’s second annual Youth Leadership Summit later this year. “It’s a five day residential course aimed at teaching 14 – 17 year olds the practical strategies which will help them to achieve future business success. Various industry experts will be mentoring the teenagers, teaching them
