Parked cars delay fire crew Owner’s fury at

FIREFIGHTERS have warned drivers to be more careful after Larkfield crews were blocked from getting to a blaze at Mckenzie Close, Aylesford, by parked cars in the road. A Kent Fire and Rescue Serv-

ice spokesman said that al- though they got to the incident within six minutes, the fire ap- pliance did experience some difficulty passing parked vehi- cles. There were no casualties. The spokesman said: “This

isn’t just an issue for this road or area. Over the past few years,

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has tried to raise awareness of poor parking in almost every part of the county. “Badly parked cars can result

in slowing down response times to incidents, as fire engines have had to crawl through tight gaps, and it is particularly bad during the school run. “In some cases, crews have

had to change routes because their shortest journey has been blocked, but this could result in a tragedy if the delay means they are too late to save some-

one from the deadly effects of smoke and fire. “Larkfield fire crews have pre- viously distributed leaflets out- lining responsible parking to residents.” Borough ward Cllr John Bal- combe told Aylesford Parish Council he was aware of the fire service problems in accessing Mckenzie Close and parking re- strictions were on the joint transport board list, but cur- rently did not have priority. The fire service was now sup- porting the proposals.
