Bowling club welcomes visitors

Clubs donate money in tribute to members


A CHEQUE for £2,858 and another for £600 have been presented to two charities. Fundraising events were organised by SnodlandWorking Mens’ Club and Friends and Bikers Mo- torcycle Club (FAB) in memory of two of the working mens’ club’s stalwarts, Bill Wells and Tom Perkins. Bill was the longest-serving club member, and the cheque was presented by Richard Steele (steward), Kevin Bush (secretary) and Kevin Rimell (FAB) to Sister SylviaWant, of Lord North cancer ward at Maidstone Hospital, where Bill was treated. Tomwas a former fire fighter and was a club trustee when he died in December. A cheque for £600 has been presented to the Firemen’s Benevolent Fund in his memory.


Bikers and friends raise £3,000 to help charities


FRIENDS And Bikers Motorcy- cle Club has enjoyed an excel- lent year, donating more than £3,000 to local charities after its 2011 fundraising events. FAB Secretary, Kevin Bush,


said a cheque for £1,000 was given to the Kent Air Ambulance – making a total of more than £6,000. Other recipients included the Children’s Liver Disease Foun- dation, the Godden Trust, Mor- timer House, Little ’Uns Nursery and the Childhood Stroke As- sociation. A quiz was held at Snodland

WESSEX Jewellery and Pawn- broker shop in Snodland High Street has closed. It shared the former Heart of


Kent Hospice shop with the In- surance Shop and, as reported in the last issue of Town Talk, an enforcement notice had been served to restore the Victorian shopfront which had been split in half without planning permission. Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council and Snodland Town


Council both objected to the ret- rospective planning application from Markerstudy Group of Bessells Green, Sevenoaks. An enforcement notice was served on the company, which ap- pealed against the decision, but a Government inspector con- firmed the notice. A spokesperson for the com-


pany said: “We don’t have a comment for you currently but we’ll update as soon as we can.”
