SNODLAND Church of England Primary School’s annual book week raised more than £500 to spend on books. Different themes were chosen for each day. On
one day, pupils were asked to write a “suitcase story”. They chose a prop and the name of a char- acter from a suitcase and then used them to write an adventure story of their own. Teacher Ashley Bentley, who organised the week,
said one of the favourite days of a highly success- ful week was called “Snodland has Shrunk”.
SNODLAND Chess Club has reached the semi-finals of all three county competitions it has entered this season. Secretary Neil Miners said
the club had played 17 matches, winning 10, drawing six, with just one defeat. “The club has progressed to

the stage which was full of over-sized items,” she explained. “They were told I had found a magic key and entered this wonderful world where people shrink to the size of elves. The children then wrote stories about their tiny adventures.” On the last day the pupils went to school dressed
as their favourite book characters and the judges, governor Trevor Wooding, site manager John Crit- tenden, and ICT consultant Kerrie Cosh had the dif- ficult task of selecting the best costumes.

is cancelled The Walk of Witness led by Sable, a miniature Shetland pony, was not held on Palm Sunday (April 1) this year. In previous years the walk
has started from Christ Church, along Malling Road and into the High Street. Prayers were said outside the United Church, followed by an open air service. Rev Hugh Broadbent, Rector of Snodland, said a council meeting
of
Churches Together in Snod- land agreed to hold a united service at Christ Church. “With, amongst other things, the closure of the United Church in the High Street, and the fact that a number of the congrega- tion, including the walk stewards, were away in France on a town twinning visit, it was felt that the time had come for a re-think. “There will almost cer-
tainly be a Palm Sunday ‘Walk of Witness’ next year, but its nature and form is very much open for discus- sion,” he added. An AnimalWelfare service
will be held at All Saints’ Church at 5pm on April 29 and the parish walk is on May 5.
