MORE than 200 fish were removed and returned after being counted from the lake in Nevill Park, Snodland, as part of a fisheries management scheme. A huge amount of rubbish, including wood, deckchairs, parts of motorbikes, a door mat, bot- tles, cans and toys was also cleared away. Members of Medway Valley Fisheries Club and students from Hadlow College fisheries division carried out the survey. The club has a liability to help clean out the lake, which it does every year, but this is the first complete survey. It shows the type of fish and provides a general

health guide, including the numbers of fish and the quality of the water. Matt Vidal, a lecturer in fisheries at Hadlow Col-

lege, explained that the huge Seine net, with floats on the top and leads on the bottom, is hauled from one end of the lake to the other and into a small area. The fish are stunned with an electric shock and,

after being counted, are returned to the water. Matt estimated about 90% of the stock had been caught. For the record, there were 125 tench, 82 carp,

two eels and four goldfish. It was thought that a koi carp weighing 14–16 lbs was probably put in the lake from a garden.
