CHILDREN, some as young as three, walked or ran a mile to raise £1,354 for Sport Relief. All the pupils at St Katherine’s Primary School, Snodland,were given the opportunity
to wear their sports kit for the day. Headteacher Allan Adams, who also com- pleted the course of three laps around the school field, said: “Most of them man-
aged the mile, even some nursery children. “Staff were also en- couraged by the chil- dren and again, most of them decided to join in the run with their pupils.”

School says farewell to retiring headmaster
A SCHOOL said goodbye and happy retire- ment to the headmaster during a fun-packed evening. Allan Adams has retired as head teacher of
St Katherine’s Primary School, Snodland, after 25 years. Governors joined staffpast and pres- ent for the farewell party. Guests included former head, John Cross-
field andWinnieWarnett, wife of former head, Tony Warnett. She was senior mistress and taught at the school 62 years ago. The school has had just three head teachers and three deputy heads since the end ofWorldWar II. Deputy headGerry Cadwallader opened the proceedings with “This is your Life” and pre- sented Mr Adams with the Red Book. Three members of the senior management team, as- sistant head Nicola Marshall, Christine West and Liza Wright read a poem, teaching staff sang “Goodbye Mr A”, and there was a per-
formance by magician Nigel Mead. Chairman of the school governors, Bob Kingsbury, spoke of the school’s achievements during Mr Adams’ time, including the rebuild- ingof the school and the buildingof the nursery, “all done with the school running smoothly”. “You have developed a very strong, commit-
ted management team and staff,” Mr Kings- bury toldMr Adams. “You are a truly hands-on and committed head teacher. You have main- tained the focus on the academic standards.” Hespoke of the letter received from Schools Minister, Nick Gibb, in December 2010, prais- ing Mr Adams’ leadership in achieving excel- lent results in English and maths, placing St Katherine’s in the top 100 primary schools. MrAdamspraised his “superb” staff,manyof
whom had been at the school for a long time. “The truly superb results in 2010 were not down to me,” he said. “I was the manager.

That was down to the teachers.We have a su- perb group of teachers supported by a high level of teaching assistants. “I leave St Katherine’s an excellent school
and I hope the personwho takes over fromme continues that excellence.”
