The transformation of Harpurhey Baths Bathers once flocked to enjoy the waters at Harpurhey Baths, North Manchester, but the Grade 2 listed building, designed by Henry Price, suffered years of decay and was boarded up in 2001. Restoration included a major upgrade to the roof lantern and a new sprung floor over the pool to create a theatre and exhibition hall. Walker Simpson Architects specified electrically operated blinds to the continuous central roof and CBS installed 16 of their System 8/140 motorised blinds with all the blinds on each elevation operating together as a group. The blinds stack neatly on the cills and run up unobtrusive guide cables to the apex. This was a challenging project for CBS, operating 8 metres above the floor level to fit blinds to a structure over one hundred years old.

Granwax help bring Aspley Church back to life Aspley Evangelical Church in Nottingham was established in 1931. The age of the building, lack of maintenance, and damage from a recent flood had all taken their toll and caused the soft- wood floor to become uneven, tired-looking and discoloured. Matt Bright of Brightwood Flooring was tasked with its restoration. He started by stripping back the main hall and side- room floors, and sanded and reseeded the wooden blocks. Matt then applied a layer of Granwax Barrier Seal, a specialist primer designed for floors previously treated with solvent based wax polishes to help prevent finish rejection. Once dried, Matt applied Granwax Master Finish. The fast curing, two component water-based polyurethane finish created for wooden floors that are subjected to heavy wear.

Take to the floor with stylish new coordinating ranges

With the demand for fully coordinated wall and floor combinations increasing, and following the successful launches of a number of wall tile ranges during 2010, British Ceramic Tile is pleased to announce that a selection of in-house manufactured floor tiles are also now in production. The new floor tiles offer a collection of versatile, hard-wearing, design-led options and are available in 333 x 333mm. They can be used in a range of both contract and retail envi- ronments, from kitchens and reception areas to bathrooms and conservatories.

Sheila Elliott, creative director for British Ceramic Tile comments: “The new floor tiles provide total co-ordination with some of our most popular wall tile ranges and also work well as standalone solutions. Floor tiles are being widely used throughout the home and this latest collection has been designed with that in mind. They provide a selection of practical and stylish design options for use in a variety of environments.” The latest additions have a stronger body, improved glazes and increased PEI ratings compared to the previous in-house manufactured products.
