fishing destination is home to Kokanee (sockeye salmon), Dolly Varden (bull trout) and most notably the Gerard Rainbow Trout. Tese Rainbows – the world’s largest Rainbow Trout species - are native exclusively to Kootenay Lake (though have since been transplanted in other areas). Growing up to 35 pounds – which happens to be the Canadian record held out of this this lake – these fish thrive and prosper in this environment. Te Dolly Varden - a fish that usually has an average weight of five to twelve pounds - that holds the current Canadian record with a whopping weight of 29 pounds, was reeled in out of these very waters. Teeming in numbers in Kootenay Lake is the small, yet prolific, Kokanee. Known for their extremely good eating, this species is much sought aſter by anglers – fishermen who rarely dock up at night disappointed.
